MOST mums would run at the sight of a snake but Gold Coast snake handler Brooke Smith has become a pro at staying calm.

Snake CatcherThe snake season is just beginning and the 23-year-old has already relocated plenty of serpents from all over the city.“I used to be petrified of them (snakes),” the Paradise Point mother-of-one said.“I’ve now got respect for them but, at the same time I am very nervous when it comes to venomous snakes now that I’ve got a four-month-old baby.

“When I became a mum, that’s when I started being very cautious of them and of not being bitten.”

Ms Smith and her partner Tony Harrison have 300 pet snakes at home and run a snake catching business.

“They’re all in enclosures with padlocks on them and away from the baby,” she said.
